i love the idea of 1/8 ultra light, but the indoor track is too small (just as it is for 4x4SC). 1/10 truggy (ofna hyper TT and then the ten-t) was a super fun class at norcal for a while. a hyper tt class would be fun on the indoor track.

8th scale ulta light has been taking off at some tracks. This would be a fun class maybe.. the mip kit should be out soon. This class is a 2s limit and are really for 10th 4wd sc conversions to buggy.

Videotaping your race and then using it as evidence on a R/C Car message board to cross examine your toy car racing "opponents" is kinda like filming your employees in a effort to catch them stealing. Not to mention you look like a glorified dentist with that silly camera on your head. Of course you will see some rough driving upon inspection of the video. Over 90% of the people I see dring 4X4 SCT trucks are way over powered. They overshoot the turns, run into each other, hit and run, and a bunch of other stuff. Those trucks are way overpowered for intermediate drivers even. I would suggest beginner racers to start out with a slower motor. Another class would be better and more positive for the racing community. That way, you can learn to take the turns slower before trying to plow a 8LB car at 30 MPH into a high speed turn with 6 other guys. It's just a recipe for disaster.

Don't know why my name is "hidden" I don't believe I asked for that but I think I changed it. I am the only guy there whose last name is Gross so perhaps I'm not as famous as I thought. Cry  I don't have an e-buggy I run in 17.5 sportsman buggy.. I'm the guy in the dopey hat sitting in the chair in Nicholas'video. I just assumed that guy was a friend of yours because you keep coming back to defend him instead of just letting it go and by your post(IMO) you did seem mad.

I still don't really see "slamming him" by the fact that what Nicholas is pointing out is..what actually happened. I agree, someone should have probably talked to the guy in person and maybe offered some pointers before the main where clearly people are upset about every "incident" that occurred. Posting about it on a message board that like 12 people read is obviously not helping.

I 100% agree we should be welcoming to new racers.  I believe I have helped a lot of people in my time at Nor Cal and I always try to help new people I see without tools or having trouble with a car, etc. I think as "seasoned" racers you guys should be able to just say oh well sh*t happens and do it again next week. That's my only point. Sometimes I wish I never found this message board. I was having more fun not knowing about all the complaints people had and just showing up to race and have fun. Welcome to the internet, I suppose. Kiss

wow, a lot of discussion today~

for Clay, please read my post before, I said had no critisizm against him. (I thought he's called Rick though from someone else's post). I knew he was trying hard to control the beast, and financially it make sense for the track to get more people into non-rookie classes. I didn't achieve to meet him after the race, it would be nice to tell him to pull aside when someone is lapping though, especially if he's not racing anyone. My point was that, there won't be a problem if he's noticed and told that leaders are approaching. In real racing, it's called blue flag. I like the idea of having a spotter to look after this.

for camera, I don't see there's anything wrong. It's a fact that I can't have as much chance of practice time as some of you do. I know the real pro racers practice a lot each day. I'd love to practice everyday, even for just a few packs. Unfortunately I have a job, and I like my job, I work late almost everyday, and at the time I got off work, the track has closed already. (mind you, again, it's not a complain, it's life and I choose to live with it, I feel lucky too to have a track 15mins from where I live, so I support it as I can, I've been buying membership since I know its existence and join races as I can.). Furthermore, I practiced there last friday night after work, even if I only have less than a hour. I practiced there Saturday after race as well. Unlike some of you guys having over 20 years of experience, I enter the hobby last Febuary, and I've never played this before. So, no, I'm not a clean driver, and like Clay, I'm just trying to be clean, and trying to predict as much as I can, and you guys' critisizm isn't the very motivational.

Besides, 1:1 real racers use camera to learn too. Plus beside my own races, I also record races upon my interest and by requests. It's silicon valley, and I believe it's a good way to promote the hobby and the track as well.

for the racing incident, Tim brought it up, and I consider it a racing incident. both of us could have done better, it's some luck that bought us together (maybe some wind as well). However if the same situation happens again, I would probably do the similiar thing, maybe a bit more to the outside to give him a bit more room, but not all the way out. Here's why I have psychological shadow about going way outside in the straight way: http://youtu.be/dzURkgdo4Y0?t=1m19s

not sure who you are hidden name eww gross, but...

1) i'm not mad at all. fortunately nick didn't take me out and i gave clay enough of a wide berth that he never effected my race. again, clay isn't "my friend". i met him for the first time saturday. he was friendly and asked questions and we tried our best to answer them.

2) when nick says: "Just checked the video again, the guy in 4wd SCT race wasn't trying to race the leader, he just can't drive the car. It would be better if he's intentionally told to stay there and wait.

there was at least three dangerous moments he had. -1. first lap he crashed from in-field into near the jump before the straight way, lucky the wind was low then so we can fly over him. -2 he spun out right after the fast jump before the last hairpin, lucky I didn't took the inside line and missed him. -3 he just cut into my way during recovery, stopped me for over a second, and Dave made the pass."

that's slamming the guy. totally uncalled for IMO. much better ways to handle the situation, than doing a play by play breakdown of the guy's mistakes on the forum. plenty of those were made by everyone in that race.

3) maybe he should have been in the rookie class. that doesn't change the fact that we should be much more welcoming of new racers.

richard hsia is that eww gross?

I said this before but by checking the race results IMO your friend Clay should have probably been in the rookie class. You say yourself he is a new racer and again I marshalled for your races all day so I could tell there was 1 driver that was a little "fish out of water" compared to the rest and the race results confirm it. He did the same overall laps as the guy who won the rookie class..only the guy in the rookie class did it in 5 minutes instead of 6. Of course the rookie class skill level goes all over the place but still, the fact is he did 3-4 less laps that 90% of the racers in your class. By default he is going to be an obstacle and Nicholas was pointing that out not "slamming him" as you suggest. it just seems to me you are still mad and now trying to pick a fight.  Let it go man.  As someone once said to me: "It's just racing toy cars".  Try to do better next time and move on. Sheesh.

and this is the last i'll say about this topic...

i don't think this banter back and forth discourages people from racing. it certainly doesn't discourage new racers as they aren't even on this forum. i'll tell you what could discourage new racers. i remember the first time i raced at norcal (or anywhere for that matter). i was racing my slash 4x4. this was with the old driver's stand. my truck went under the stand and i leaned over to see the truck so i could drive it back onto the track. the guy who was the RD at the time (or had just recently been replaced as the RD) who was also in the race yells, "BACK UP! DON'T LEAN OVER THE DRIVER'S STAND! GEEZ!" now of course that didn't discourage me as it would take more than some jerk to keep me from doing something fun, but if that was some kid? good lord. or if that had been my kid he yelled at?

so i don't think this discourages people from racing. if anything, i would think that us trying to police ourselves would be encouraging. nobody has resorted to name calling or anything too terrible. it's been a civil discussion. my only point was that coming on here and complaining without telling the guy to his face all the while being guilty of questionable driving isn't the best tactic to effect positive change.

carry on..

i'll do ya one better. the guy nick's crying about (clay) shows a willingness to get out of the way when faster traffic is approaching. nick, check your precious video at 3:39. he gets out of shape trying to negotiate a turn and when he comes back and tries to make the turn, you've already run up on him. not saying you do did anything wrong, but clearly he was not trying to race you. in fact after that he guns it and goes toward the bottom of the track to try and get out of the way. at that point, you take out dave for the first time. when clay goes to start again, you get into him and he guns it to go high and let you and dave pass and then you take out dave for the second time while he waits for you guys.

clay did nothing wrong. he's a new racer who tried to do the right thing and you come on here and slam him. meanwhile you're taking out guys left and right.

get a clue. if you're too stubborn to admit when you're wrong, at least be smart enough not to come on here and show it.
