dave, you ran the best of us in tough conditions. congrats on the win. it was well deserved. as for you tattooing EJ...completely unavoidable. nothing you could have done. you're right about the durability of these trucks though. you don't see too many hits that will have more force (F=MA) than that one and both of your trucks drove away. amazing.

nick, i can't say much more about the situation. the pics i posted clearly show you going out wide and then back in (and ultimately into the side of EJ's truck). if you refuse to accept responsibility then that's pretty telling about you.

yes, when I got out of the pipe, I rush straight out to avoid him, and when i see he's clear, I take the turn and choose my straight line, giving him enough room.

Phreak, it was a fun battle with you when you were nearby, even in the qual (when I landed sideways into your side off of a badly aimed side jump...fortunately it didn't take you out so we kept going). You show that you care and want things to go the right way, even if we can easily get ourselves worked up in the heat of the competition on the stand. More folks racing who can set a good example and guide new folks is the best thing we can do as racers for the sport.

EJ, I'm sorry for the almost full speed hit near the end of the straight after you'd gotten all spun around. I don't think either of us could've really reacted to avoid it, though I'm thankful I'd already been on the brakes earlier than normal after rolling it the lap or 2 before trying to take the sweeper. I'm also thankful we both have durable trucks and were able to both continue the race. It was a testament to the Tekno truck's durability.

Nick, fun battles, I'm glad you caught my truck literally blowing away sideways as I tried to get on the straight, that was a moment where I couldn't help but laugh at the same time as hate it.

As for race announcing on Saturdays, Rick is new to it and learning. Please feel free to give him constructive criticism, ideas on how to do things better, or go help him out with calling upcoming traffic, stop and go's, etc. when you're not in the race. I'm sure he would welcome the help.

thank you for proving my point. your truck is clearly pointed toward EJ's line in the bottom pic. what would be more telling are the pics of you coming back over the pipe and your correction back inside when you shot over the pipe. also what isn't shown in still pics is the speed of both vehicles. you were coming back onto the track while EJ was likely pinned at that point.

I didn't change the line, I didn't shrink his space, he got enough space to go straight, but he choose to stick towards me. If I change line there to avoid him, then I'll just crash out, and at that speed, probably break the car.

One corner before, he did the same thing, limiting the inside line.

perception time is the time it takes your brain to perceive something it has to react to. studies have shown this to take about .25 seconds. reaction time is the time it takes your brain to tell your body to react to that perception. studies have shown this to take about .25 seconds. so perception time + reaction time = .5 seconds. the time it takes to realize that a guy is coming back over a pipe and into your line, even if you can do it in the .5 seconds, to try and correct your line when you're already at full throttle is impossible. it would have thrown him into one of the pipes. the rule of thumb is that when you're coming back on the racing lane from out of bounds or over a pipe, you have to yield to on coming traffic.

i too now have watched that particular incident several times. EJ never changes his line. you, however, coming from over the pipe, changed yours about 3 times.

maybe this is why you're reluctant to try and tutor new drivers, because you think they'll be as disagreeable as you are.

the bottom line is that you messed up and took EJ out. not a big deal, but your reluctance to accept blame is discouraging. the last time out at norcal for me, i took dave out when i was slow to react to his check up on atteberry. i didn't do it on purpose, but i apologized to him after the race. not a big deal. i will try not to let that happen again. without accepting responsibility, you're likely to repeat the mistake again. hopefully it won't be me that you take out next time.

It was very windy during the race (even Dave's tekno once got blown out by the wind in that corner), and since EJ was very close behind me, so I tried to take a bit more angle to fight the wind. Yes, I overestimated the wind or/and overdone it and cut into the track. When I got out of the pipe, I immediately moved way out to avoid EJ's line.

My plan was to stay outside and brake early (outside lane is rough and very dirty), so EJ will get into the front anyways, and I won't loose too much time v.s. Dave. We are tied in points during that race.

I chose my line early, and left EJ about a meter width to run. Don't know why EJ was still going outside, however if I react to it at that part of the straight, I will probably just crash straight out. (One thing I learned this year after we move outdoor is that, steering in the middle of the straight way is very dangerous, the truck will spin out or bicycle. )

I have no intention to race EJ. Just wanted to keep in front of Dave, and fight the wind.

*last few laps of the race, I was just throwing the car, regardless of the wind level, and hope to apply Dave some pressure, didn't worked out though.

Not to add fuel to the fire but here goes..I marshalled for 4x4 short course all day including the mains and while I did not watch the race until the video just now, I did notice the one particular driver that seemed to want to race everybody anytime there was a group. That driver probably should have been taken aside and explained what to do..and perhaps the race announcer should have been more tuned in to calling out that driver when he was being lapped or being approached by the leaders, etc. I don't know the guy but if he is new to racing he probably should have been in the rookie class (judging by his fastest lap time and overall laps) but I don't think that was such a factor that as fast as you guys are you could not have dealt with him(and obviously did).

To the guy who thought he was on the lead lap and according to the results was not, I believe I might know what happened. From watching the video at the 34 second mark your car is upside down either ON or JUST BEFORE the timing/scoring loop. Everybody goes by and the marshal picks your car up and places it INSIDE the track where you waited for all the trucks to catch up before you went. Most likely, your transponder did not pick up and you were placed down without crossing the line so the results show you a lap down. Without the detailed lap times posted I can't say for sure..but if I had to bet that would be my guess.

i can see where i go out of frame and yes, i was down and out, but caught back up. dave won the race, but i definitely should have had 2nd. not a big deal to me. i'm not in the points race, i was just confused when i saw the results.

it was tough conditions even for 4x4 SC as it was very windy during that race. at one point my truck got blown into the pipe while i was on the straight. still fun though.

It is hard to see exactly where it happened in the video, but Nicholas cut the track and ended up in front of Tim out of frame somewhere. I believe that Dave might have done the same, either that or Tim was crashed out of frame for a very long time allowing Dave to get around.

Either way, we shouldn't have to review video footage to determine what happened as it is much easier for the folks running the race to just pay attention and call it out.

Reading the posts after the last few Saturday races it seems like either lots of stuff is getting missed by folks running the show, lap timers are not working, or something else is going on. No matter what it is when you leave after a day of racing there shouldn't be any thing to sort out like this in my opinion.

you can check frame by frame all you want, but the fact is, EJ is already at full throttle in his line when you chose to accelerate into his line (after getting out of shape). do i think it was intentional? absolutely not. my point is only that the driver you are referring to is obviously clay, who from what i can tell is a fairly new driver. i doubt his transgressions were intentional either. none of us are pro level drivers and we can all learn. after the race did you approach clay and explain that trying to race guys on the lead lap when you're down isn't the best idea? if not, then how can he learn? i only met him for the first time saturday and he seems like a good guy and would probably appreciate the feedback.

the idea is that very little gets accomplished by crying on these forums. if a new driver needs help understanding the intricacies of racing, then we should help explain it to them and not whine about them behind their backs here.

just a thought...

@josh I know that, I mean the detailed race result posted on rcracing.com. Only that result contains the detailed lap time detail, and I need that to render timing and scoring into the video.

I don't understand why you are one lap down either, detailed result is not posted so I have no idea.

the video is cutted out "early", but it's longer than 6 minutes. I doubt he told us the race has ended after 6 minutes though.

I say sorry when I can't brake hard enough that I may I touch others, if I accidentally hacked, I do wait for them.

To the accident with EJ, I checked the video frame by frame, I was holding the straight line on the outside, no steering in at all. EJ was trying to push me outside, in the middle of the straight way, and we had contact. at least after the contact happened, I didn't had any steering input, on the line perfectly perpendicular to the straight way.

well from the video, it's hard to tell what's going on from an overall standpoint. i thought i won the race and watching it, i never fell off the lead lap and again, from the video, i should have been no further than 2nd place, but it almost appears like the video cut off early. edit: video didn't cut off early, it just ended a few seconds earlier than the "10 seconds left" announcement. still, should have been 2nd, but printout showed me 3rd or 4th.

as for the rough driving, you need to be very careful when you're calling people out. i heard more than one "sorry" from you and that didn't even count the time you took EJ out on the straightaway when you got out of shape and then gunned it into EJ who held his line.

@Tim Here's the 4wd sct video. Norcal didn't upload the race result so I couldn't be bothered to process it and share on norcal site.

On a another totally subject. I want to encourage alto buy at your local hobby shop, like NorCal. It's way worth it in the long run. They absolutely will price match.

The most important advantage is this. Customer service. I again was having radio problems with a radio I purchased at NorCal in jan. went thru hell with airtronics. After again having issues again with the radio, Eric is getting me a radio from another company of equal value and exchanging it. He himself is going to take on airtronics and do the right thing for me as a long time customer. Eric is a stand up guy and will stand behind his products that he sells. Buy from NorCal. .

Want to clarify that this was at delta not NorCal. I heard several drivers complaining about the driver on the stand. Again as josh stated, nothing from the race director. On several occasions the director did say to clean it up, but it has to be called when it happens.

How freakin hard is it to just do a stop and go. I'd rather have the respect of other drivers than to win at all costs. But that's me.
