@Chris if you want hard impact, why not take a look at the hobbypartz $9 a pair racingspike premounted? LOL Brian and Dave tried it on the dirt track and it works there.

About gridiron, as my lack of experience on blue groove/dirt track, my (memorized) experience on pin style tire are pretty much limited to my set of soft impact, used on my 2wd buggy last few weeks. I found that 50% of its life the rectangle shaped pins became triangle. and the rest of them doesn't go too long after it's near bald. Seeing how much those pins are turning triangle shaped, but only after a race, I guess it won't last too long.

oh, having pretty much all my experience on our indoor track (tires pretty much last forever), "long" is a pretty high standard.

----

The thing is, 4wd is very well drivable with bald tire. In fact when track is clean, Brian Tran TQ first round of 1/8 ebuggy with a set of completely bald tire. Even when it's slightly dusty during the race, my nearly bald aka enduro still works fine.

for 4wd SC, less grip may be better, it took me quite a while to adapt to the better grip after I changed to gridiron. It feels better with less grip, I can slide a bit when I want, and can be safe from traction roll. Perhaps I should find a setup for even higher grip (grip level better than indoor track)

The track was much better. There are a couple spots that seem to build up a lot of fluff, but everyone has to deal with them so we're all in the same boat.

Nicholas, I used SS Raptors in 4wd and they will probably be good for at least one more weekend. In ebuggy I used medium Impacts that were already 1/2 worn. After the main they were bald in the middle. I might try hard Impacts next time I buy tires.

I agree with suby. Here's what I would do.

RECIPE:

1. Close the track from Wed-Friday. 2. Get a blowtorch 3. Blow off track in one direction toward the building. Take your time and get as much loose crap off all of the racing lines. The idea is to collect all the loose crap by the side of the building and on the fence by the homes. It has to stay away from the on-road track. This is crucial 4. Get some loose clean thin dirt that is rock free 5. Fill in the bad potholes with the loose, dry dirt. 6. Spray the spots with sugar water from a water feeder 7. Use the blow torch to harden the loose (now wet) dirt. 8. Scrape any remains off the edges 9. Perhaps give the track a light water and/or sugar one more time. But not too much. I would do it overnight.

There are some spots of the track that can't be repaired in this manner....as they are too far gone. However, the potholes can easily be fixed and much improved. I saw Kevin Jelich fix potholes in this manner and it was money.

LOL @ Aaron.. funny stuff

The traction was finally good but the track fell off in the mains. Some maintenance and all will be good for next weekend.. The track should be sugared a few times before next weekend too. Best thing would be for drivers to not run on it this week and get the maintenance 100% or it will just go down hill again imo.

That's what a forum is for. We get together and discus the track, conditions, car setup, etc. You can't just have complements. This isn't North Korea.

Thank you Nor-Cal crew! The track conditions were great and traction was good as long as the track was swept or blown off after each race. Keep up the good work!

How sbout sending your complaint/concern to Eric directly at

I think this is the sort of thing that you should work out with him directly and not on the forum. Just my opinion.

The ruts will get fixed, they were noticed. I liked the new little turn that got put in. I guess now is the time for me to put a high traction setup on my SC, I was traction rolling everywhere despite using traxxas hard tires and limiting droop a bunch. LOL

Traction was much improved and alot better.

+1 to fixing the ruts as nicholasxuu mentioned. That was the main issues I can see.

nice race day.

Had no idea about the layout change until 10:30am this morning, nor the track condition. Both are new to me.

Should have raced 17.5t buggy instead of open, if known the track has been slow down this much.

Recommend to use medium or jconcept orange tires. Used the set of tire I failed to broken in after a few hours of practice in the indoor track, they got bald after 2 heats, no grip in the main race.

For 4wd short course, seems my invincible losi eclipse works well, except it unglued itself after the second heat. Changed to soft gridiron for the race and expected traction rolls. And yes Chris, that tire may just last a race day or two...

*please fix the dent area in the S corners, even buggy traction roll when touched one of them. and there's a bump in the inside line of first corner, probably one of the big spot scratching 1/10 4wd buggy's chassis.

Yes, I saw Lutz using medium AKA handle bar in 2wd short course in this year's Cactus Classic. Q3 + A3, just behind those two associated Ryans.

I guess 2wd SCT can't handle too much grip with that light weight chassis and heavy high body.

at the kings race i went with soft wishbones and orange pressure points. i liked the wishbones better. wear wasn't too bad. won't get more than two races days out of a set though.

Your absolutely correct. I have half his old tire for proof even! You can't get blue compound though.

Hi Chris,

I guess I'll just get some orange barcode then. If they don't have durango wheels then I'll just use those invincible losi eclipse LOL.

Does that "race" you said means a 6 minutes race? or a 4x6mins race day?

At least buggy classes will be awesome.

@Jon, I don't think 17.5t buggy had traction problem before (if I didn't use barcode in that wet and soon to be dry track) . The problem with 17.5t buggy is the power, and perhaps the temperature (when geared higher). Though with more than 4 cars on the track, it can be fun wheel to wheel with different racing line.

Thanks Kevin!

Nicolas, I used Panther SS Raptors a lot last year. They are similar to the GridIrons. They will last a race or two. If you have mediums they would be better.

I can't wait to see and drive the fresh surface.

for 4wd short course, do gridiron work? or they will be eaten up in a heat or two?

also, is the track clean? or any dusty area on the track? remember last year the track was like polished, and they said near bald tire worked great.

Thinking about getting the tires at the shop tomorrow, but not sure if you guys carry durango short course wheels... (15mm hex)

so looking forward to it!
