Eric recently mentioned the indoor track getting leveled on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 12th). When will it re-open?

No more truck racing Steve?

I finished putting my buggy together today. I think we'll be out there next Friday for some practice. I want to get in 2-3 good practice days before racing it. 2wd mod/open.

I also look at it like this. The 1/8th scale guys are paying lot more money to run just in kits and support. There has to be an upside.

Also can you imagine the wear and tear on 1/10th scale cars running 15 or 20 min heats and mains. They are not designed for that kind of abuse. Batteries would also have to be replaced on a more often basis.

Chuck, for nitro off road there's really only 2 classes of vehicle that exist in the land of 8th scale. Buggy and Truggy. Both can, of course, have multiple heats.

I really don't have an issue with the difference in run times. If I want to run those longer times ill run 1/8th scale.

This hobby isn't cheap. Never will be. All I know it's the best $20 bucks I spend on every race day.

Lastly if you run multiple classes and run a least once a week ... Take advantage of NorCal monthly fee. $99 a month and all your race fees and practice are covered for a month. That's a hell of a deal. You can run as many classes as you want. That way you can get more race time.

There's only 2 nitro classes at NorCal on Saturday? I thought there was more. How many does Delta usually have when they run their nitro program?

Steve- I think that was the plan.  I think Chris accidentally marshalled an extra race yesterday, because 4x4SC was supposed to marshall rookie and nitro buggy was supposed to marshall nitro truggy, so he didn't have to marshall nitro truggy-- although his help was much appreciated because we only had 4 guys out there on a big track.

The race fees point Chuck makes is a good one.  I think the differences in the duration of the mains between nitro and electric is just "how it's always been." With high capacity lipo batteries now, electric mains could be much longer.  One reason tracks have not gone to longer mains for electric is because there are so many e-classes and longer mains would make the day too long.  There are only 2 nitro classes so it makes it possible.

How about 8th scale marshaling 8th scale ? That way no 10th scale guys have to Marshall a long heat or main race.

Hmm, nitro does more filling, so I guess it tastes great!

I do agree that trying to marshal long nitro mains is not something I enjoy, but I bet it happens at large races to, so it is just part of the way things work. I apologize for not being out at the start of each Nitro main to marshal, as I was starting the races in the booth, but headed out after that.

All in all though, it was a really fun day with lots of good racing and a good track layout.

I think for the most part our longer eBuggy main experiment went well too, and there were lots of good battles in there. My car came off at good temps to keep going as long as the battery, and so did several others. Even JJ's eTruggy ran 12 minutes in the nitro truggy main and could've gone more with no heat issues. Electric has come a long way and I look forward to seeing where it continues to go.

First off, I did not mean to start a nitro vs electric war. I've run both, I WAS a due hard nitro guy. I do electric now, but I'm not ruling out nitro in the future.

I raced 4wd SCT and ebuggy. 4wd marshaled truggy. Ebuggy marshaled nitro buggy. I did not see anybody from truggy except ryno marshal nitro buggy.

I do NOT have a problem marshaling nitro, As long as I get a reasonable amount of run time in return. I think most would agree that 20 min vs 60 is a bit lopsided. That's all I am saying.

I was happy to see ryno, navid, turner, Matt, and all the other nitro guys there yesterday. Lets please keep this cool.

The bigger issue that should be raised is what happened to all the guys that ran the class right before the nitro buggy main (I'm not sure about the other mains). There were 3 guys from that race who went out to marshal and I joined as my nitro car dnf after about 5 mins. There was even a guy marshaling that did not race all day long. I didn't hear him complain at all he does it for the promotion of the hobby. Remember guys whatever we as a group focus on will increase.

Nitros typically do not run 30 minutes on club race days, but yesterday was a light turnout so we had the time to run them. Usually fifteen or sometimes 20 minute mains on nitro-its part of the fun of nitro, pit stops, warm-up, and the longer battles all add to the fun. I thought yesterday they tried to arrange it so 1/10th marshaled 1/10th and 1/8th marshaled 1/8th, not sure how Chris ended up marshaling both nitro mains?

I ran ebuggy for less than a lap before a electric failure, I still marshaled the 30 minute main after, it does seem long, but really its fine. Gets me off my butt and in the sun!!

As far as fees go, using the race facility is using the facility. We may have more time on the track, but we don't have batteries constantly using power all day like the electric. It's difficult to and time consuming to try and quantify the little details like that, so we all pay a very reasonable fee to use the amenities Norcal gives us for the entire day and that is that!

I love both electric and Nitro btw, not biased towards either.

Sorry that's just what Ryan Lutz calls them which is where i picked up the term from. I highly doubt he meant it as a derogatory term. Didn't mean to be demeaning. So sensitive though. Edit...

Nitro cars will run for an hour if you re fuel them. The dynamics of a electric race program have always been as they are at NorCal and same can be said for nitro. This sort of issue would be best raised in a personal email to the race director and not aired out in a public forum.
