Chris, Thanks for the good input. We are currently re thinking our designs and evaluating the big picture of what we want to achieve at Nor-Cal. The new Tenth Scale track will be more down to earth for sure with all the good input we have gotten. Ive got a great team helping with the current ideas and design of the new Tenth  layout. I m sure you all will like.

Kevin,

A while back you asked for honest input to help the track succeed. So, here you go.

Keep in mind when you're doing the new design that it needs to be kid/novice friendly too. If you guys want the track to grow you need to attract the new guys and guys with kids. Otherwise we'll wind up like airplane racing where it's the same guys racing until they quit or get too old to do it anymore. Airplane racing is dying a terrible death right now because there is no new blood.

I've enjoyed your tracks, but there is always at least one section that is a complete PITA to get right. I can understand that you have to keep it challenging for the Pros and Club Pros, but make sure that the rest of us can still have fun too. In that vein I'm all for getting rid of the double triple combos or at least spacing them out a bit so that the average guys have a better chance of making them.

I like Biner's designs. They both look like they would flow and be fun to drive. There's alot of variety without relying on gimmicks. IMHO if you can't do it on a full size track it is a gimmick. Biner's ledge is also a bit of a gimmick, but if you make it so that the kids running their 15mph SC trucks can either bypass it or have an escape road out of the gap then it will be fun.

One last thing, try to keep the track configurations a little longer. many of us absolutely can not make it to the track to practice. It seems like just when I finally start to get a good feel for the track and it changes again. There's been 3-4 layouts since I started racing in October.

Again, I'm just giving my honest assessment. I've been involved in some sort of RC racing for the last 20 years (boats, cars, and planes). I'm also sure that if you ask 10 racers you'll get 10 different opinions.

The designs are good. With the physical constraints we have for the new footprint for the 1/10 track, They should work or be a good reference for jump sequence/ selection. Thanks Aaron.
Really?

I'm "ABR Serious" about the designs. That's what I came up with in an hour. Give me the lane measurements for 1/8 size tracks and I can make you multi design. Of course it's easier to write on paper than to move tons of dirt.

If you must build yet another incarnation/rebuild of the small track, here are 2 layouts. Both are based on features I have seen in person and videos at Hot Rod Hobbies, WCRC, and SRS Raceway.

Layout #1

The Ledge:

You Tube Explanation of design #1:

The ledge is based off the right side portion of this track (SRS- 2011 Cactus Classic)

The ledge at the cactus was 5 feet or so. That's too far and difficult. 3 feet gap is pretty much what you want.

The mounds are like this:

That's one decent design. Next up is design #2. This has more flows and lips. This is similar to the tracks you see at Hot Rod Hobbies. I mixed that with another feature I liked at the 2011 Reedy Off-Road Race.

Here's track #2:

Here's a explanation video:

This is what the roller coaster like doubles and roller triples look like (hot rod hobbies):

This is the section on the left bottom corner (note, this pic is from WCRC's Reedy Race 2011):

Here's a video of a roller coaster type track at Hot Rod.

Both tracks are drawn to scale with 2cm on the paper = 1ft of actual space. They are 1/10 purposed track designs. The track is layed out with 104ft x 67 feet deep on the left side and angled on the right side. The lanes are all layed out at 10 feet per lane all around. The width of a SC track is 1 Foot (12 inches). A extra foot has been given on each side of the pipes. I can draw up/design a combo track with these types of elements for both scales as well.

If you build this, they will come.

Why can't the big track be fixed to this layout again with new larger jump features on the 1/8 line:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS5WP5S9X30&feature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yHP5LmBMbg

Seems like that was a good layout and no one complained about it much. This was when Nor Cal had the best of both worlds in 1 track. The track had a great flow and turnouts were off the hook back then.

If you build 2 tracks....then you have to maintain 2 tracks.....what a pain. Plus the nationals needs to be run on the bigger track side. The ROAR committee looked over all the bids and picked Nor-Cal based on that side of the track and the videos submitted of it. That dirt is 10X better, you can have a longer straight if neeeded, etc. It would be better to let the locals practice on the current multi-track side. Even if you build a nice track on the smaller side it can only be 80-90 feet of a straight at most. Anything longer and you would be onto the On-road track.

"I'm trying to back into 1/10 offroad. So Proline 2-Stage inserts are still the insert of choice I see. Anyone ever try the Proline Closed Cell Inserts?"

2 stage is just better on the rougher outdoor tracks for the most part. 1/10 Closed cell works too sensitive for tracks that aren't smooth. You hit a bump and hit the throttle and its rough.

Thanks KJ, thats good to hear and I appreciate the info.

Speaking of input, I do have a suggestion. Maybe on the next layout change there could be a small walk space between the tracks making the place a lil bit more spectator friendly specially the 1/8 off. in the corner.
