MK74,

We are only stopping NITRO OFFROAD practice on ONROAD RACE days for this month of MAy. After the REEDY RACE we will have things back to normal practice. I Hope this helps you with your frustration. Your welcome to run everyday of the week and on OFFROAD race days. PLease call me if you want to discuss 510-282-2450 to better understand why we are doing this. Thanks for you support and input.

My setup is nearly the same as this:

http://www.kyoshoamerica.com/assets/images/setups/UltimaRB5-SP2_jDunlap_reedy2011ai.pdf

The only difference is I have shock length A in the front at 82.4mm and measurement B at 19mm. Rear is 100.6mm for measurement A and 27.8mm for measurement B. As the sheet says, use the longer eyelet for the rear shocks. The part number is Kyosho 97038 .

Also, I have my ball end mounted in the shortest link hole on the UMW516-0 alum hubs with a 2mm washer. You can use UM519-2 with the shortest hole as well.

It's important to note the use of the UM521 arm instead of the SP2 arms that come in the kit. This moves the shocks out more.

"This is starting to make more sense, but I'm also getting more confused. All these tires and color compounds! Why can't they just use numbers? "

It's just not as simple as "soft" and "hard". If a tire said "soft" and "medium",etc it would leave no room for improvement. You can't make "soft" and then find something else that works and call it "soft" as well. Plus harness is just an opinion of what you consider hard or soft in your hand. There are different chemicals in all of these rubbers that respond well to certain conditions not limited to such factors as wetness, ground temperature, abrasiveness, type of dirt, etc. The manufactures have given them all color or lettering codes. It's easier to remember a color like pink or red than anything else.

Sucks to be a nitro guy if the only LHS you have is Norcal. They won't even let me practice run my buggy today on their track :(

So is this gonna be a new thing now - whenever there's an asphalt race no running nitro on the other tracks?

Yeah, its more like not "making" traction. That is a loose pushing feeling. I think that's what Thomas is referring to. Blues did that for me as well.

Blue bar codes in the rear. Rear end to locked down? Hence the push?

I tried siver taper pins with 3/4 rear foam and I was pushing, scrubs with stock (rear foam) inserts felt best to me. Trail and error, you gotta love it.

Again, thanks Aaron. Buggy is new to me and still learning. What about inserts? After speaking with Kevin today, it sounds like we are going to be on the big track for a little while longer til the new (I can't wait) ten scale track is built. What type of insert will best suit the orange compound tire on the big track? From what Kevin told me he will be there this weekend to get the track prepped for optimal conditions. So if dry and sugared, whAt insert? I must add that blue v2 barcodes with dual stage inserts, the traction was insane. Too bad the tire wear was high.

IF THE TRACK IS SUGARED USE ORANGE REAR BAR CODES WITh 2 STAGE PROLINE INSERTS. IN THE FRONT USE WHITE BAR CODES WITH 3/4 OF A REAR AND 1 INSERT FOR LESS STEERING OR ORANGE BAR CODES WITH 3/4 AND 1 INSERT IF YOU NEED MORE STEERING. YOU MAY ALSO GET SIMILAR RESULTS WITH LORI FRONT SILVER TAPER PINS AND RED REAR BK BARS. I WOULDN'T USE PROLINE TIRES AS I MENTIONED BEFORE. AT THE CACTUS CAVALLERI WASN'T RUNNNG THEM IN SIMILAR TRACK CONDITIONS....AND HE'S THERE #1 DRIVER. IF THE TRACK IS WET AND NOT SUGARED I WOULD TRY GREEN REAR BAR CODES AND BLUE OR WHITE FRONTS. THERES A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PROLINE HOLESHOT M3 AND J CONCEPTS GREEN DOUBLE DEE MAY BE VERY GOOD UNDER THOSE CONDITIONS. THE THING IS....ONCE THE GROOVE IS BUILT AND YOU WATER IT, ITS DIFFERENT FROM A 'GREEN' TRACK WITH NO GROOVE. IT'S HARD TO SAY WHAT WILL BE BEST.

White is a mystery to me. I have never seen it used. Also, when I asked Jason Ruona about it I didn't really get a straight answer. Not sure why they make white. I have tried it a couple places and it wasn't what I wanted.

Orange is a stiffer compound than blue or green. It's made of some chemicals that work excellent in black/blue grooved up conditions and particularly in hot grooved conditions. Nor Cal's current 1/8 track is pretty grooved up, but not that much. Also, the weather is not that warm. Usually, the ground temp would need to be around 80 degrees and up to use orange. I think that when it's sugared, you get a naturally abrasive traction surface that breaks most non-orange (green and blue) down pretty quick. The pins fold and you get little traction with higher tire wear. Orange pins stay stiffer to the abrasive surface and you get more bite. I think I have more bite with 3-4 run oranges than new green or blue. If the track was watered or different it would be a different story.

Thanks Aaron for your input. So is orange harder then the white compound? I'll have to pick up some orange.

"Blue barcodes on the rear. One heAt and the were pretty much done. Maybe able to use them for a qualifier after that but... I ran the same front tire on my buggy all day (m3 scrubs) and they were in good shape when I started. At the end ofthe day they were bald, krazy. Has anyone tried the proline suburbs in the MX compound? Would those tires be ideal for the track?"

J CONCEPTS ORANGE IS BETTER AND LASTED ALOT LONGER. OTHER MANUFACTURES OFFER SIMILAR COMPOUNDS AS WELL. MX PROLINE RUBBER SHOULD BE SIMILAR. HOWEVER, I HEARD AT THE CACTUS CLASSIC THAT IT WASN'T WORKING THAT WELL. PRETTY MUCH EVERYONE RAN LOSI RED BK BARS OR SOME SORT OF ORANGE J CONCEPTS BAR CODE V1 OR V2 TIRE. REMEMBER, THE TRACK IS HARD AND SUGARED. ALSO, ALOT OF THE SOFTER COMPOUND TIRES GET EATEN UP ON THE HARD PACKED BIGGER TRACK. THE PINS JUST FOLD AND GET EATEN UP QUICKLY WITH LESS TRACTION OVERALL. IT WAS THIS WAY PREVIOUSLY AS WELL 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. COMPOUND IS PRETTY MUCH KEY.

new tenth scale track on tenth scale side is going in.tire wear wont be an issue. this is going to be a bigger track than before cause we are moving the drivers stand. new demensions 70 by about 110. we are going all out on this track

ARE YOU SURE 110 FEET IS A LONG ENOUGH STRAIGHT? SEEMS LIKE 160-170 FT (CURRENT 1/8 TRACK) IS TOO LONG. ALSO, THE SPACE IN BACK OF THE CURRENT DRIVERS STAND WOULDN'T BE 110 ONCE BUILT. YOU WOULD LIKELY HIT THE ON-ROAD TRACK. IT WOULD BETTER IF YOU PUT BACK IN THE SAME MULTI LAYOUT WE HAD 2 YEARS AGO WITH NEW JUMPS AND FEATURES. THAT LAYOUT WORKED FINE AND NO ONE REALLY COMPLAINED.

Which track will the Roar Nats be ran on? Tires choices for 2wd buggy? Thx

THE GREAT QUESTION
