Also, I should mention that while I was not scared (much) at all to Marshall that spot...if there was a bicycle helmet or football gear or Jason mask back there sitting...I wouldn't be embarrassed at all to wear it while working that spot either.

Here you go Jesse.

Basically, it says...

A. Don't stand on the bottom side close to Mt. Jelich. That is the prime spot to get hit by a full speed car.

B. The shaded areas are the only areas of responsibility of M1 (Marshal #1).

C. (red area) Never walk up the face of the backside of Mt. Jelich. You will not see the car coming until it is too late. End result is not pretty. Always walk up along the back edge and then across to retrieve car and THEN BACK. Do not continue across and do not sit there flipping the car unless you are sure of no oncoming traffic. Grab it and flip it as you are heading back, or take it back to the edge with you. (if driver expresses displeasure in the form of ballooned tires, feel free to toss it down the back hill).

D. (yellow area) More important as closer to red area. Do not try to dart out, flip the car and circle back. Go in one direction, flip/grab car, continue to other side of lane, look back for on-coming traffic and then proceed back to marshal location. Circling back is slow and diverts attention from on-coming traffic.

E. Lines of sight. When I marshalled the nitro truggy race, I had the advantage of sound to help with on-coming traffic and still I made sure to look at the straigh-jump and table-top at all times and count the cars I could expect to come over that hill trying to decapitate me. It was my #1 pasttime for 20 mins.

Also, and very frankly...this is not an area to be marshalled by someone of minimal mobile ability.

Also, during practice, there should never be a kid anywhere near that area and I noticed a few times during the week in practice drivers where very good about making sure that didn't happen.

Hopefully much, if not all of this, is common sense.

I agree with Rich on the whole 8 scale issue. Always No turn marshals really for the truggy guys it seems like. Basically he is spot on  IMO. I am 1 of those 8 scale guys who stopped running my 8 scale Truggy & Buggy. I got into 10 scale Open SCT & 10 Scale Truggy just because of exactly what Rich pointed out. I got tired of always running back to back. I got tired of always being at the end of the day.  I got tired of the track being not well maintained ( 8 scale/old layout) kind of because it is to hard to do up & keep up two tracks at the same time every club race (8 scale track & 10 scale track) Kevin is only human. So I decided to just do 10 scale off road on race days until this NorCal series popped up. I am not trying to stir the pot or talk S***. I am just stating that everything Rich said IMO is true.

I love NorCal & I am very grateful for there existence & alll of the hard work & tireless efforts. I also know opinions are like A***s and & everybody has one but I'M JUST SAYING  & wanted to let EVERYBODY know Rich isn't the only 8 scale cat that feels like that !

@Racenut- John you would run the RX8 in Dual mode. The only difference is you would not have sensored starts. It would be sensorless at all times. You would still have the option of timing advance as well.

Check out the driver's stand from yesterday's race day!

Rich, would like to see your suggestion for marshaling Mt. Jelich.

Jay-Dub, I hear ya on the turn marshaling! I think it's time to have a driver's meeting and go over some basics

And now for something completely different~

Any of you guys running the rx8 have any idea if running in Dual mode is necessary to run sensorless motors? I have a Mamba 3800kv and was wondering if this is the actually setting for sensorless. Was installing the motor and figured I would ask here.

Really?

I turn marshalled the back side of Mt. Jelich for 20 minutes during the truggy a-main last week and was recently tossing around the idea of using a photo to diagram some suggested turn marshaling info for the area.

However, based on recent interaction with our beloved race director here and at the track, not only am I have flashbacks of what originally turned me off to racing 10 years ago, but I really doubt i will voice any future suggestions and am seriously reconsidering my involvement with racing in general going forward.

you know I was gonna cover the whole don't crash yada yada but I didn't I had too. If I didn't crash chances are I wouldn't even be on this forum discussing turn marshals and their ability.

See the thing is I do crash, sometime a lot, sometimes a little. So I need a turn marshal, wish I didn't but that's the breaks.

I guess I just should have said, "it would be great if everyone gave their best effort when turn marshaling. Turn marshal to the best of your abilities, while being safe. In no way should anyone get hurt. Turn marshal as you would like someone to marshal your car."

Happy Easter everyone, if you don't celebrate Happy Sunday!

tracks this size and lay out do not give very good positions to turnmarshal effectivly. watching for on coming cars is tuff,( i almost took 1 to the head) so understand that we all can get hurt by hustling or running on uneven, loose terrain.

bottom line dont crash and no need to depend on others and hope for the best on the turnmarshll's skills to right your wrong.

the best thing we all can do is just be present when its our time to marshal a race!

this is old news so we never learn any how!

You're absolutelly right. However, I am not talking about the people marshaling my car (and there were many ). I have been racing long enough to know I wouldn't need a marshal if I didn't crash. I was refering to the entire day and the lack of respect tward everyone in general. BITD racing at any level (club, nats, worlds), everyone hustled and did the best job they could. Drivers didn't generally get upset because they new they made a mistake, and the guy was doing the best they could  to right the drivers mistake. If you were taking your sweet time to get to a drivers car, it was because you had a serious beef with him and wanted him to know about it.

But over the last few years, the respect or level of care (whatever you want to call it) has seriously eroded. I wouldn't mind so much if it was just one person, but for the first time yesterday I felt like it was the majority of the turnmarshals were basically saying "F you" to the guys on the track, not just me (I understand them saying that to me btw-LOL). In years past others drivers would self police, and "encourage" marshals to do the right thing. Unfortunatelly, when you are dogging it to the car, or are turn marshaling carelelssly it only adds frustration and gets people heated.

I guess the point is, if you don't want to do your part and give your best, find someone to marshal for you who will. Most of us are passionate about our racing (this is were the real frustrations lie), and we neither need, or want you around if you don't care.

My opinion on the drivers stand. 1st time was our fault. We thought everyone was done and they weren't. I did apologize for that. The 2nd time, everyone was done, and a few people decided to take an extra lap or two yet the 1/8 guys still got blamed.

Turn marshaling...there were a lot of issues, I agree. You have to remember that there are quite a few spots that can't exactly be seen clearly from the marshaling spots.remember, the drivers stand gives you the best view of the track, not the marshal spots.it definitely doesn't help when someone crashes and they yell at the marshal for gettin to the car when they can.marshals can't "know" when and where a car is going to crash so don't be upset with them if they don't see it the second you crash.remember, it's not the marshals fault that you hit the pipe and ended up on your lid. Easiest fix to bad turn marshaling, don't crash!!!!!also, turn marshals remember how you treat them while you are driving. If ur getting upset and screaming at them, or pinning the throttle when they are at your car, they won't put in the effort to get your car next time cuz u r being a jerk.

Kevin: Thanks for the great track yesterday, traction was good, and tire wear not too bad.

Ditto on the turn marshaling. I had a rough day yesterday, and so did many other people. I have to admit I have never seen so much BS turn marshaling -EVER. Not paying attention, walking to the cars, flipping them back onto their lids etc. I always try to tunmarshal how I would like my cars to be marshaled -with hustle, care, and for christ sake look out for the other cars on the track. Just remember, people will start remember your tunmarshing "style" when turnmarshaling your car. I guarantee, if I see you walking to a car, I will think twice about giving 100% when you need it.

As far as the drivers stand issue, this one is really simple, and I don't know why it hasn't been implemented before. The stand has two entrances, one should be the entrance (far side) and one should be the exit (near side). Everyone will get used to waiting fro the drivers stand to clear if there is only one entrance. -Jeff

Im running the Lutz setup  the truck is easy to run fast with.

I did TQ  and win.. so you know its fast.  If an old fart like can wheel this truck imagine someone half my age would be super fast.

I am glad to hear you got it all sorted out. I know you were getting frustrated there.

So how is it? Overall? It's probably the best layed out SC out there.

I would love to take a few laps with it. (hint hint).

Sean..

the kits should come with a center diff.   it takes the stress of the rear diff gears .  The slipper is too harsh.. and breaks the crown gear

I put in the center diff w/50 thou oil and it works great.  Havent had to rebuild anything.

I have run 10 packs an no problems with the car and even ran it on the eight scale track (big track)  no issues.

 Im using a 550 with rx8 esc.
