I agree as I have seen 4X4SC get completely out of control over the past year. The expert/pro has moved on out of the class for the most part. There's not more then a handful of experts running that car anymore. I feel that more rookies should start with a 17.5 buggy but its hard to make a person buy a certain vehicle if they have there mind set on an SC truck. I believe if there was more enforcements on sportsman racers that Steve wouldn't have been hit in the head. I think that was a good warning that further actions need to be taken.

I understand the safety concern, but if you're going to give one person that much "power" then maybe we should extend that into the 17.5 and mod classes. Put all sportsman into 17.5 and all expert/pro drivers into mod, just as ROAR intended.

I think that 4wd SCT should be a expert/pro class, too.

Agreed 100% do not allow any joe shmowe put one of these cars down and run it. If anyone shows to be out of control yank their driving card. Same should go for the 4x4 class that is already dangerous and ridiculous.

....agreed with running A Main rules on 1/8th buggy lite .... 4s/2000kv motor

most important objective from the A-Main guideline's --

"eBuggy Lite class is an indoor class for advanced/expert racers only, as the size and weight of the cars makes them potentially very dangerous. Drivers who do not exhibit proper control of their vehicles may not be allowed to race this division until his or her skills improve."

Amain has a good grasp on it because Ruben is in charge of it all and is not afraid to tell a driver they can't drive it because they arent good enough. I think there is very limited control over the class right now because there hasn't been more than 5 guys running it. However the class can get extremely out of control very quickly if proper rules arent followed and strictly enforced.

Guidelines,I'm thinking that A Main has a pretty good grasp on this one.

Please note those are the rules for AMain, not for any other place as of yet.

eBuggy Lite

eBuggy Lite class is an indoor class for advanced/expert racers only, as the size and weight of the cars makes them potentially very dangerous. Drivers who do not exhibit proper control of their vehicles may not be allowed to race this division until his or her skills improve. The rules for this class are:

  • Chassis: Any 1/8th off-road 4-wheel drive buggy style chassis or converted 4wd SCT chassis
  • Motor: Any 540 or 550 based brushless motor.
    • Max length = 73 mm
    • Max Diameter = 36 mm
    • See motor battery combinations below for motor battery combination limits.
    • No full sized 1/8th scale electric motors allowed
  • Batteries: Hard case Li-Poly batteries
    • 2-cell hard case Li-Poly battery
    • 3-cell hard case Li-Poly battery
    • 4-cell hard case Li-Poly battery. Hard case can not be larger than a 2-cell hard case
      • Length = 139 mm
      • Width = 47 mm
      • Height = 25.1 mm
  • Battery/Motor Combinations:
    • 2-cell (2S/7.4v) with 4800kv motor limit (or 35,500 +/- 500rpm)
    • 3-cell (3s/11.1v) with 2700kv motor limit (or 30,000 +/- 500rpm)
    • 4-cell (4s/14.8v) with 2000kv motor limit (or 30,000 +/- 500rpm)
    • The goal is to put a cap on the overall rpm the motors can make with the battery
chosen. Note that the higher voltage lower kv setup is NOT an advantage and is the recommended power system for this division.
  • Tires Silver Dollar: Must use Proline Blockade X2 on the Silver Dollar outdoor track.
  • Tires: Any wheel with rubber tires intended for the class is allowed.
  • Bodies: Any 1/8th 4WD buggy body intended for the class.
  • Maximum Weight: 3200 grams. (The intent for 2013/2014 is to get this class developed and not enforce max weight. Max weight will be enforced with the start of the 2014/15 indoor season and 2015 outdoor season).

Yeah "basically." Its "basically" 8th scale now on 4s and your on a 10th track. Its supposed to be a LITES class NOT indoor electric 8th scale. You guys are bending the rules and its not right for 10th scale racing, especially since its on a indoor track. I wouldn't be arguing if this was ran on an actual 8th scale track.

4S limited to low kv motors (under 2000) is basically the same as 2s on 4600-4000kv. Hence the AMain Hobbies rules.

4S is just much easier on the electronics and batteries.

I HATE the amain rules. 4s will offer even more power over 2s. I don't want to see inexperienced drivers launching them all over the track. Its a liability for the track, marshalls and fellow racers. If the class becomes popular it will need strict enforcements before it gets out of control. Also on race days they need to be in a controlled practice. Its not fair for 10th scale buggies getting plowed by 8th scale buggies. Especially since its a 10th scale track.

After 7yrs away from the track & hobby, I'm hoping to make it back out. I have an 1/8 eBuggy on the way, and possibly a 4wd buggy soon... So much has changed since my last racing weekend. If things work out I may have a cameo here and there

I watched the youtube vids but didn't see any 1/8th buggies?

We have been running 2s so far, per a gentlemen's agreement.   Though it's not set in stone just yet.   There's allot to concider for you, the racer.   Cost is one of the bigger things to concider in rule making for you guys, and once can argue cost in favor of, and opposed to 2s.   But these cars also aren't cheap to begin with, so you must know what you're getting into (if you cant afford the tires, don't buy a Porsche)

Bring them out on Sunday, I'll be running with you, and talking to each of you running the class.

I'm thinking of getting into Lites, but I really don't want to go to 2 cell.  It just puts a lot of strain on batteries and electronics (high motor temps, battery puffing, etc...).  For a a smaller indoor track like Norcal, 2,3 or 4 cell systems will all provide more power than anyone needs anyway, so I don't think there is a competitive advantage one way or another.  I'm willing to buy a smaller motor if the full size T8 is off limits, so I think Amain's rules sound good.  It would be good to hear Norcal chime in.

So far, NorCal has been keeping a 2s limit for eBuggy lite. Even AMain doesn't allow normal t8 motors (or any full size eighth scale motor) in eBuggy Lite, so you'd have to buy a new motor to go from full ebuggy to lite with their rule set anyway.

As for 2s, I have been running the hobbywing 4700 geared at 16 to match my sc setup, but turned current limit off. I do generally have a fairly smooth throttle finger, but you can push the buggies harder. I'm running that in a full weight EB48 and with a heat sync added, temps are ok, but it definitely pushes the batteries...they always come off quite warm, and I can use 4700+ mah in a 6 min race, vs about 3200-3500 in the sc.

My sct410 is heavier than my EB48, so the weight doesn't bother me.

I've talked about rules with a few folks in position to make them at various tracks, and nothing is set in stone yet. The one thing that you can be sure of is that a 2s sc setup will always be legal to run in the class, even if it isn't the most efficient option for down the road.

Hey Chris, I have been running Tekin 1850kv on 4S in SCT. It is pretty good, runs cool and is faaaast! That is pushing a light Durango, EB48 might be a bit different.

Next time Gizdich is open you can check it out there!

Well, A Main's rules allow you do run what you have, or find a new combo with more cells and lower kv.

2-cell (2S/7.4v) with 4800kv motor limit (or 35,500 +/- 500rpm) 3-cell (3s/11.1v) with 2700kv motor limit (or 30,000 +/- 500rpm) 4-cell (4s/14.8v) with 2000kv motor limit (or 30,000 +/- 500rpm)

I don't own any 4wd SCT gear anymore, so at the least I'm going to have to buy a new motor. You're also going to need a really good battery to push a 7lb buggy on 2s, so I'll probably have to buy a new battery too.

I'm up for the class any way about it. I'd like to see Eric post an official set of rules though.

imo, when a new class is starting up, cost is key to getting it going and keeping it going (who wants to go spend money on a new motor and new batteries on a class that might be dead in a couple months?). if you only plan on racing your e-buggy at norcal, and it's a new buggy, yeah, just outfit it for whatever the rules are. however, if you already have an e-buggy and plan on still racing it with full 1/8 electronics at other tracks, adopting a third electronics setup (4wd SC, lite, and regular), is a cost i won't incur. now i could buy just a motor and continue to be able to run all three classes with nothing more than a motor change (as i already have 4s batteries for full 1/8 and 2s batteries for 4wd SC). i believe most people fit into the category that i'm in.
