Has anyone considered running an 8th scale lite class indoors? Just throwing it out there since MIP just released their conversion kit for the SCTE, I believe Tekno has a lite buggy kit for the SCT410.

The indoor is going to see more people, all due to tire wear. So indoor!!!

You've got 2 big off-road races coming up.   The Turkey Shootout, November 24th, and our Toys for Toys race coming up December 15th.   There's a bit of comments in the shop about running the Turkey Shootout inside.  What do you guy think?

My comment of "next series" was simply because of that, actually...everything seems to be a series. I'm not promoting anything other than getting ideas for how people want to run that might be slightly different and unique.

Why is everything a series? We can't just club race anymore? Perhaps take the time you use promoting series race after series race to promote bigger 2 day or even 1 day races and have normal club racing.

Based on the comments below...I have an idea for Eric's next series, which has been a semi-common thing for 4wd SCs already.

All mains for all series classes, 10 minutes.

I don't think there's any class that should have problems making this except perhaps 4wd SC (which several other places already do this with). Some 17.5's may want to gear slightly differently if they're running on the edge of thermal at 5 min. I'll go get some mah/minute marks from my SC on the track so I have data on how easy it should be for others to do or not, but what do you all think (beyond those like gross and chris that brought it up)? It would be somewhat unique, and definitely value consistency over the fast lap.

Considering that I only use 1000mA of my 7000mA pack in a 5 minute race I think we should do 20-30 minute 17.5 mains. :^)

I'm wondering if perhaps I can lobby for a 12 minute 17.5 buggy main. As it is right now I don't even get into my groove until about 4.5 minutes into it. I think if I had another 7 or 8 minutes, I could really win some races!

Jon! I can stay on all 4 wheels and go as fast as I want till the electronics give out or go up in smoke that's what I'm talking about. 2 minutes pfff! I don't care about temps on my motor or speedo.

jake...im not trying to argue over an extra 2 minutes...of course i want to run longer...but remember...im on my wheels most of the time not on my lid...and to add to that driving the car to its max potential...with all due respect...and i mean all due respect...I wanna Go Fast! 1700 kv is not fast...try a 2050 or 2200 for 12 minutes running at a hundred %....no lid stops either...by the way...i kept going to time it and got 14:35 on 2 2cells...160deg on the motor and 90 on the speedo...oh and I WON!

I've found that I usually use about 400mA/minute for my ebuggy. Any decent 5000mA pack will cover a 10 minute main. If 4s packs are too expensive for you try using two 2s packs in series. There are a ton of good 2s packs available now for less than $80ea. I'm running 2x 2s6600 Nanotechs and they have plenty of power for about $90 total. I have my cutoff set at 3.5v per cell and can get 15 minutes easily.

Personally, I've had no problems making the 12 minute mains. If my gear is getting hot it's usually because I'm spinning the tires too much. I try to adjust my current limiter to match the conditions.

My "long main desires" are more that I want to be able to run even if there aren't enough eBuggy (or eTruggy) entries...so just run the main with the nitros. If I could handle breathing nitro to do pitting or tuning or any of that, I'd be all over the NB48 (or already have had a nitro through this season to learn it).

Dave-sounds like you need to get a nitro to fulfill your long main desires until battery technology catches up with you http://www.rcracing.com/SysImages/orangeyes.gif

Tekno's NB48 is almost out so it's perfect timing!

Every one must have forgot what cut offs and safety shut downs meen? That's what is incorporated with most all esc's. I am as experienced as many of y'all and never ever had issues with hurting my motors battery's or esc. I don't get where the thought of going longer is abusing or hurting the equipment. I for one see all this as more drama, not needed. This is all about run time I for one am about more run time all ways. Remember this is racing not bashing or putting around, all race equipment is in the line of abuse. Otherwise why race?

It is clear that the desire is for 10 minute mains, which makes perfect sense since that has become standard. I'll make sure to bring it up with Eric next time I see him that we should just always run 10 minute mains, and I'd be willing to bet he'll be perfectly fine with doing that.

To continue the other discussion points: I think worrying about the electronics surviving is from days past, though I'd like to hear if others experiences are far different from mine and is why they're still thinking about that issue. The only thing I'd be worried about with my setup for a longer run is the battery if I tried to run it too low. Even after a full pack at about 20 minutes for me ( set to 3.35v/cell cutoff), the motor comes off at 135 and the ESC at 125-130 with no fans on anything (Tekin RX8/T8 1900, 18t, no current limit, in a Tekno EB48). That has been consistent for all of the NorCal tracks in the past year and a half or so since I've been driving the buggy. I drove it super hard once while testing for heat and got the temps up 10 degrees from that once the pack died, and letting Jelich drive it for a qual a couple times only raised temps by 6 degrees from how I normally drive it. That's all still plenty reasonable and not really pushing the electronics anywhere near a hurting/failing point.

I personally look forward to the day I can run a 30 minute main with nitros and not need to change battery packs. Trying to push today's normal 4s packs to that would definitely kill them though. Some have called me a basher for that desire, but I see it as forward progress for the electric platforms and battery technology. We already know these 8th scale cars can handle it everywhere else from hour long Nitro mains that are the standard at top races, and the 30 minute mains that are common at lower club level nitro races. So it is purely battery and electronics at this point, and I think most of that rests on the battery technology today, rather than the rest of the electronics.

Ah I could definitely see why you weren't sure on the 12 minute mains. But luckily it seems that most of the club races at NorCal are right around 10 minute races. Might have just been because the Classic is a bigger race.

It can be discussed that the main could be longer with a certain group of people at one point in time, but so many people come and go that will not be in that discussion.

Like both Jake and Hernandez said 10 minutes max is what e-buggy setups are based around. Yeah I could order a lot bigger battery and get the run times, but I have never needed that much battery and up until recently it was very expensive to get batteries bigger than ~5000Mah. Last time I bought a 4 cell I even went with the 4300 protek knowing I could make the normal quals and mains no problem.

Unfortunately I didn't see that the race was 12 minutes or I would have said something, my fault for not looking at the mains sheets. Jonathan got out in front and just cruised around the track and was able to make it, I was back and forth for position and really pushing the car, combined with wheel spin I ran out at a little over 11 minutes.

EbbTide: We were told on the stand just before the race started "We always run 12 minute mains" But you are right, just looked back at old results, 8 minutes....

Of course your right 12 minutes is not sanctioned 10 minutes is. What stops any one from practicing longer than 12 minutes. I know for a fact I don't time for 10 minutes while out practicing. I'm done when the pack is and that is well over 10 minutes and the car and electronics will take all my abuse. I'm not sponsored just dumb enough to have fun at my exspense. This is the first time ever any one ever hated on having more run time especially with electric cars. Gota stay with Nitro to get the run time and talk about abusing the equipment! That's a whole nuther exspense not compared to electric.
