Oh man I'd give my left nut for an occasional Sunday race like we had a couple weeks back... turnout was pretty good too.  Saturdays I'm good for the first half of the day at best.  I'll try to make those half days account every now & then but an occasional Sunday would be a real treat.

S/X and to all, Norcal just got some New Fantom 5200 7.4V 50C batt's in stock today! Fresh from the post man, get em while they're here.

For me, I'm gonna be careful about getting other x-brand batt's from now on. I mean, the price just can't be beat! However, I heard some horror stories about x-brand batt's ruining electronics.....so be cautious....

S/X, the SC10 is done.  If my Bow-Ties does not come tomorrow, I will have to run with the stock tires.   I spent 2 hours programming the Tekin RS finding the sweet spot for a 17.5 offroad while keeping the temps below 130s.  We'll see Saturday if my motor blows up.

Just wanted to clarify. The rules I posted are not mine. They are from The Ground Pounders, who race asphalt, so stock tires are used. I just posted that to give some ideas.

mecam, what's up

All my batteries are gone (sold). I'm not gonna use someone else's batteries just in case it goes boom. Knowing me, i might crash and break them. I'm good, I'll just wait until they come in stock again.

Hows the sc10 coming?

I'm down for Open Corr and 16th/18th scale if there's enough people.

S/X, that sucks man.  I just sold my SMC 4000's, otherwise I would lend them to you.  Just bring your car, I'm pretty sure there's somebody there with extra packs.  Actually, can't you remove the battery box from the Jammin and just use velcro to hold your longer packs.  I have some commercial velcro that works good.  I've crashed a plane going 50+mph and the battery was still stuck on the velcro in the fuse and this was a 6cell LIPO 4000mah.

Southbay, they had a vote at the last race on which days off-roaders prefer and 90% voted Saturday.  I voted either day.  I think the alternating days would play out fair for everybody.

No racing for me this weekend or for the next several weekends. The kid is starting Tee ball and they are all Saturday games. What are the chances of getting one off road day on a Sunday a month? I know Sundays will help me get 3-5 guys to come out. Most of my "crew" has kid obligations on Saturdays.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience!

no racing for me this weekend. I don't have any batteries. I'm waiting for stock to replenish at hobbyking. Damn, I might not be racing for a month or so. I'll probably come out and marshall and help around the tracks.

See you there, 4x4 SC and 8th E-Buggy for me. 13.5 buggy and Open SC for Luke. Yeah boieee!

This is my take. We have a Rookie class which has always been open to run what you bring. The slash makes a great 1st race car,but you have to cut your teeth somewhere.Rookie.

The Stock SC class is for people of varying degrees of driving talent.Limiting people by driving ability won't work in a class like this.Honestly, the days of SPEC SC are numbered. It's something that has been seen nationwide already. Once the class became a race class{at big races} it was over. The spirit of the rules are there.I know some are testing limits and in all honesty,if you can't be honest with yourself and figure out where your car and self[abilities} belong, then thats a shame. I will be talking with Kevin and Eric to see what we can come up with to simplify things. Please be patient.Stirring the pot does nothing but get people upset and unmotivated to come out and have fun. This is what these cars are for right?

Really?

all i have for 10 scale at this moment is a stock slash, so im out of luck if only novice drivers are allowed to race. a novice class would be a good plan.

i have well over a year old, weak motor that has been raced in oval and various off road tracks, decent set up and keeping the cars momentum up is key, in my opinion.

In the last year or so that I have been back into racing I have noticed that there really is never a "novice"class.  but in most novice racers run the slash/stock SC class.  Most Slash/stock SC races there are 3-5 people that are new or have less experience.  With the top 3-4 experienced slash guys always so close it can take some of the fun out of the racing when there are some people who cant even get out of the way.

I think that as little as 3 racers should be enough to make a novice class.  and after they win 2-3 times then make them bump up to stock SC, or what ever class they want.  We should try to have a novice class every week, to keep bringing in new people.

For the stock SC/Slash I think we should only limit the electronics, maybe limit the high-end lipos.  but if people want to go out and get special diffs, shocks, chassis, or tires go ahead.  As long as the trucks don't go too fast those items don't make that much of a diffrence.  I feel that at the end of the race, the best drivers are still going to win this class no matter what.

Ya know, zorglub, given how close we've seen lap times can be between the two classes with the right driver, that's a really cool idea.  When I read that, everything started to make a lot more sense and a lot of pieces fell into place in my head.  That makes it actually a boon to allow various aftermarket parts in "Stock" class as is currently done.  It allows folks who have bashing Slashes & Blitzes & what not to come out & play with whatever have, as long as they have normal tires and the original electronics (which they probably still have even if they've upgraded).  For folks just getting into racing, Stock SC becomes truly a stepping-stone class where folks can get their feet wet and actually have a chance of finishing mid-pack or better as they learn to drive.  Meanwhile, folks who aren't really looking to ever become more serious will always have a place to play where they don't feel pressured to join the $$$$ parade.

Maybe the answer is to tell the more experienced racers that they should move on to open, and leave the spec class to the beginners.

The Norcal CORR rules could really use some updating. It looks like stock class can easily be polluted with $500 aftermarket rigs and much more developed new CORR trucks from Associated, HPI, etc.

In my racing experience, the tires immediately had to be changed to these $60 Prolines and a $130 40c battery was needed. Then I couldn't really practice/play with the truck since the motor would lose its punch for race day. So I had to buy a bunch of motors and swap all the time. Luckily, the new 1/10 track doesn't have all these doubles that are hard to clear.

But it works at Norcal anyway. Part of the reason is not everyone knows the rules and no one is a stickler about it. The crowd at Norcal is really cool and winning is just a bonus. And the director, John is a reaaally nice guy.

But some angry racers and more difficult track conditions can really stretch these rules.

I can really see the logic in these rules that Chris Ellington posted:

----------
Slash Class: This class is for the Traxxas Slash trucks. It’s a Spec-style class, aimed at keeping costs down, making it more of a drivers class. The Slash must be kept box stock, aside from these changes: You may change the transmitter and receiver. You may use either of the two pinion gears that come in the box. You may change shock oil and bottom shock mounting location (in the stock holes only). You may use an aftermarket Slash style body, painted as you see fit. You may service the diff with your choice of fluids. You may use a 6 cell battery or a 7.4v LiPo. Races will be on the road course track, with jumps and other obstacles. (length is up to the Race Director. Sportsman and Expert Racers.) Please note: This is a buy-out class. As a way of keeping everyone honest and having fun, there’s a $200 buy-out option. $200 gets you anyone's Slash minus body, TX & Rx, and battery.

Short Course Truck: This class is for all MFG's 2wd Short Course Trucks (SCT). Hop up parts may be used, but must be readily available to all racers. Any SCT body may be run. Any MFG tires and rims may be run. 17.5 brushless motors, or original stock motor and ESC may be run. 6 Cell battery, or 7.4v Lipos may be run. Bumpers and skid plates must be made of plastic, aluminium parts in those locations will not be allowed
--------------

I'm just thinking out loud. I'm here either way and will comply and smile.
