Try to stick with A&W... It has always worked well. Tried and true.

I will look at the dollar store for the A&W root beer.  If they have the cheap regular root beer is that ok?  What should we do?  My thinking is I dont want to show up Sunday to wait for everyone to pitch in then wait for someone to go get all of it!  Maybe we should all get some and bring it that morning!  Any thoughts!

Water and sugar mix is not stable. In order to get it mixed properly and not have it dry out and granulate on the track is to mix sugar with HOT water and adds some corn syrup to it to make it stabilize.

The PITA factor is high....

small question, why not just buy a bag of sugar, mix with water and spray onto the track? it's 10lbs for less than $6 in walmart. 10lbs = 4535.92g, there are 30g sugar in every 240ml of root beer. Thus 10lbs of sugar is about 36.28 Liters of root beer. about 18 of those 2L bottles, for around $6?

The best root beer (sugar content wise) is A&W Root Bear. Many generics have less sugar content than cola so be aware of the sugar content before you buy.

FWIW...

You can use any root beer . What is important is the sugar content so no diet root beer. -Rich

For Sundays practice day.  Can we just get any root beer or does Eric want just a certain kind used?  Asking cause there is a dollar store near my work and was going to see if they have some.

I think this was my fourth or fifth mod race. Even though I'm not competitive, I rarely get off of the driver's stand without a huge smile on my face. I'm glad I made the switch from 17.5.

That was nice of you EJ.  I actually had thought you have been running mod for a while Doyal.  I am considering trying that class later!  Its cool to see mod starting to get bigger with new drivers taking the plunge.  It gives me hope!

EJ, thanks for taking the time to write that, it's very helpful. I've been focusing so much attention on setup that I hadn't stopped to ask for any driving tips. I think what you're saying is probably the problem. I have noticed that I tend to say that the car has a push most of the time, when it's more likely I enter corners too fast. It would be nice to get in a more relaxed setting at the track to really take a look at what I'm doing. It's hard to learn certain things on a raceday. Driving mod has certainly seems like re-learning how to drive, but I'm having a ton of fun!

I'm in for on-road practice Sunday and will chip in for Soda.

Ryan,  I haven't had the chane to watch you drive, but I think that one of the biggest hurdles to running mod is learning not to over drive the car.  Something I work on when I practice.

When I say over driving it encompasses: too fast of an entry speed, too much trigger out of the turns, not letting the front tires do their job (cranking the wheel), and over heating the tires.

At the Reedy Race in May, watch Rick Howart drive around the track.  He appears to be going slow, but will put down the fastest lap times on the track.  You will notice he will seldom break his tires lose.  His entry speed and exit speed are perfect making the transition from one turn to another seamless.  Another great driver to watch is Ronald Volker.

When I first started running mod, I was fortunate enough to be friends with Matt Francis.  I learned by watching him.  He explained the smoother your turn your front tires the less traction you break which equates to more steering and more corner speed.  As soon as you crank the front tires you break traction which often results to slower lap times.  Unless you are Hyato who said he sometimes cranks the wheel and uses his front tires to slow down the car.... Im still trying to figure that one out.

Anyway we can go over more stuff on Sunday if you want.
