the only issue with the on road i saw was the pan cars having a hard time getting traction. from the 12 to the 10 scales rear end sashaying.

wait the other issue was the tc mod main to many people crashing and taking out the 2nd place running guy.

It's a tricky situation when it's a dual race program for the day. I try my hardest to wipe my feet and avoid the racing line when I absolutely have to step out on the asphalt track and encourage others to do so too.

The issue stated was dirt getting on the onroad track.  Some think it's something to address, others don't.  Actually, I feel stupid posting about it since I don't think anything will be done.  The footprints comment was in part because footprints are made by the dirt on people's shoes, and dirt on the track equals less traction.  In reality it was more me complaining about people's lack of respect for the track in doing what they've been asked not to do a hundred times.  Kind of like the guys who piss all over the toilet seat in the bathroom because they are too lazy to pull it up.

Mod TC on rubber tires is already a handful to drive in any condition (and also the biggest on-road class of the day, for the record), and you have yet to hear any of those drivers complain about the track conditions. I personally felt like the track got better as the day went on. By the time the mains rolled around I found my car to be much better than when I first put my car down. In races past I've felt the stickiness on the bottoms of my shoes when I marshall... yesterday I didn't really feel that. I knew the track was off from the get-go. I didn't make enough changes to my car though, because I kept hoping the track would come in more than it actually did. It was a gamble I took that apparently didn't pay off. Oh well.

Maybe some dust got on the track. Maybe it didn't. At the end of the day everyone races on the same tarmac, so what's the big deal? A large part of racing is being able to adapt to the conditions you're given. I've sat through thunderstorms in Oregon and sand storms in the middle of Colorado at karting events, and teams didn't have time to waste energy complaining about how poor the grip was... they were too busy trying to frantically make changes to the karts that they felt would make their stuff faster for their next heat. If your car wasn't on point then maybe you needed to think about your setup a little more or learn to be smoother with your throttle finger, instead of just blaming the track. You can't expect to just put your car down and be dialed all the time.

Real wheels will always find a way to the front. I know my car wasn't dialed, but the guy who won my race (Jesse) found a way to get around the track a few tenths faster than me, so I know there's gotta be something in either my car or my driving that needs to be addressed. Probably both. Case closed. I'll try again next time... even if Eric doesn't spray at all, and Kevin's rebuilding both off-road tracks at the same time.

Deny what issue???? How many years has it been now that there has been off road tracks neighboring the on road track lol. How rarely does it effect the asphalt. "dirt flying through the air" to me was not the cause of low traction yesterday. 2 different view points is fine, we all want the same thing and that is a good track. You are worried about "foot prints" and such so what else can be said. I actually wasn't even posting towards your thoughts a few posts back, it was carrying over what abr mentioned. Either way I'm done posting on this subject. Let's get ready for this weekend's race.

Maybe you and I were at different tracks yesterday.  It's not "glazed" and you could see the dirt flying through the air, there's no way it doesn't wind up on the asphalt.  I think Bill made a valid point and I agreed with him.  If you want to deny that there is an issue then go ahead, but that way nothing gets addressed.

Agreed. There wasn't any dust yesterday going onto the on road track. The track was extremely clean and dust free all day long. Yes the traction was horrible. Track looked glazed to me and it felt glazed driving on it, plus there was really no tire wear so do the math. Weather it's too many coats of spray accumulating over the past month or something else being sprayed as of late. No biggie really, it was the first time in very long time that the track was off. It needs a power wash and start from scratch on the prep. Track will be bolted next time out, I know Eric will be on top of it. We are also due for a layout change. Time to step away from the Reedy layout and really change it up out there, maybe retire the dragon's back era and create a new style fast section as we inch closer to the the Top Gun race we should be trying new ideas for layouts.

Your confused! ....Bill critical ....Jay compelmentary ....OD where is the love

Kevin took great strides with dust control. There has been more dust blown on the onroad track on non constuction days than there was yesterday. Traction is tricky bis and could have a variety of conditions. Maybe too much spray.

Points taken.   But be patient gentlemen.   The upcoming nationals will be the biggest event we've done to date.   After that - TOP GUN!

I hope we are not starting a big fight here but I have to agree with Bill 100%.  It seems to me that sharing the facility would include not getting dirt on the onroad track.  There were also quite a few dirt footprints on the asphalt between the off road tracks and the pits; the guys I saw doing it are people that know better.

The off road work has to be done. We not only have to share the track, we have to share the facility. I thought traction was better by the A's. Maybe it's just me?

Just wanted to take a moment to thank my friends for helping get closer to understanding these touring cars. Steve, and Larry you both never stop suprising me with the patients you show me, thanks for all the shwag (parts, tires, fans) my results certainly don't deserve this much support but it is appreciated. John Hicks thank you for putting in a second 8 hour day in a row with a flawless race program, I really enjoy your hard work. O.D. without your help I wouldn't be able to continue this hobby, your the best. Traction comes and goes but it sure is nice to have a world class track to race on, we are lucky to have it. Thanks to Kevin and Eric for creating a class for the new comer's I hope we see more Novice driver's giving NorCal a chance.

After being approached by a couple of on-road racers for my take on the traction conditions of the asphalt track this afternoon, we collectively concluded that the dirt movement being done on the big off-road track all day long was the cause for the poor traction in the PM.

With care, such dirt work probably can be done most mornings without significantly affecting the on-road track.  However, afternoons can be tricky when variable winds come up and there is on-road racing scheduled.  A bad combo.

Thank you.

Bill
