For the spec slash class, what are the official rules on mods done to the truck?  Can you run any body, tires, esc, shocks, batteries etc as long as you run the stock 12t titan motor?

Will not be available on Thursday; but, looking forward to Sunday.

My TC can be run on either surface (asphalt or carpet); but, the WGT is now pretty much set for carpet only (leading up to the IIC).

John

What size pinion would you suggest for the stock spur?  What size pinion do you use with the 104 spur?  Now I'm worried that my Lipos might not fit even with the steel tray.  I guess I'll have to wait to find out.

MF,

yes, I use the steel plate because it brings the car weight up to legal weight. Also I run a Peak Racing 4800 because of the dimensions,  it fits well. There is a losi lipo that fits also. Otherwise there are clearance problems with the battery interfering with the center pulley. You will need to gear way up. I have a prs spur adapter for your so you can change spurs if you want it .

Best,

John

John are you using the Steel Lipo tray?  I tried fitting my lipos with the plastic tray and due to the way the tray has to hook into the chassis I cant my lipos to fit.  On RCTech they told me the steel tray drops staright in, no need to hook it into the front edge of the battery slot first.  I have the steel tray on the way, we'll see how it goes.  Both of my Lipos fit no problem if I could drop the tray straight in.  Right now I have the stock 128 tooth spur.  According to my math a 41 tooth pinion should be ok a 17.5 set up.

It looks like I might not make it to Nor Cal till early next week. I'm still waiting for some stuff to show up.

Hey MF,

I have been running the JRX-S Type-R for a couple months. 15lb spring in front , 12.5 lb in rear , high roll center all around and the car was hooked on asphalt. I would not run the losi spool up front only for the reason that it slips ! Running a 104 spur with the prs adapter. I recommend trying the car with diffs front and rear and check out this aftermarket spool http://www.skyrocketbatteries.com/product_info.php?products_id=86. The only thing with the losi is you are limited on what lipo's will fit the car and there is no losi support if you have questions. See you at the track. I have a sh-t load of parts too if you need something !

Best,

John

The car is fine. Its just that there are very few if any local guys who will be able to help you with setup. With that said,I would try and find Larry Fairtrace setup from Reedy 2008.Good luck and see you out there.
Really?

Kevin

The incident I saw at the TOP Gun the motor seemed fine, the owner said it still ran. The bulkhead was shot.  I'd say it had at least a 15 degree bend off of the center line of the chassis.   My local shop get stuff for me next day no extra payment required, so I'm not worried.

I'll be honest I also got a killer deal on it. I got it for $300 brand new.  I couldn't pass that up.

MF,

I havent seen to any cases where the motor has been damaged do to a racing incident. The Losi is a cool looking idea, but hasent produced good race results for most of the average racers. Also its not supported in alot of Hobby Stores I think.

Thanks Catalyst  I figured I'd need some different compounds for colder days.  I just didn't know where to start.  Time to spend some more money.

Both a set of SJ-R in both 32 and 36 and you will be set for a while. 32 for cold mornings and 36s are great from about 10am throughout the day and they are 20 run tires for most.

The Solaris tires worked great there too and they are pretty inexpensive. I prefer the SJ-R personally.

I'll have to check it out.  What about tires?  What compound is good for Nor Cal's track?

I'm looking at Sorex tires in a 32 or 36 compound or maybe Jaco Rubbers in the Blue compound.   Whats good for a 17.5 turn newbie?

I'd worry in 17.5 as well - with the current competitive ESC/Motor and timing advances you will be creating just as much heat as any other wind motors.

Frank Peavey came up with a very ingenious design for a fan on this chassis - he's 4wheeldrift on the boards here.

If i was running Mod the maybe I'd worry.  In 17.5 I don't think it will be an issue.

The losi is a very good car,The only thing is that they have overheating issues....You better put some BIG fans on it...............

Convince myself of what?  That I don't like the idea of my $80 motor hanging off the edge of my chassis waiting for someone to come along and smack the crap out of it?  I didn't need any convincing of that.  Laughing

My opinion is that Losi's design is the way of the future(you could add Team Magic in here as well).  The motor has become the heaviest thing in a car these days.  It just makes sense to put the motor in a centrally located place.  In the past the battery pack was used to off set that weight, but with Lipos that is not the case.  One other thing I noticed at the TOP Gun races was the amount and placement of lead weights that most racers need to use just to balance the car left to right.  On the Losi the steel Lipo tray adds 120 grams at the very bottom/center of the car, an ideal location for weight to be added.  Any additional weight can then be added where the drive feels it's needed.  Not just where ever there is space left.  There were guys running full sticks of lead weights on the top of battery straps and top decks, all just to make weight.

Like I said the Losi design just makes more sense to me then the traditional TC layout.  That and playing with all the lead is not good for you.Cool

On a side note what is a good tire compound for the Nor Cal track?  I'm looking at Sorex tires in a 32 or 36 compound or maybe Jaco Rubbers in the Blue compound.   Whats good for a 17.5 turn newbie?
