Convince myself of what?  That I don't like the idea of my $80 motor hanging off the edge of my chassis waiting for someone to come along and smack the crap out of it?  I didn't need any convincing of that.  Laughing

My opinion is that Losi's design is the way of the future(you could add Team Magic in here as well).  The motor has become the heaviest thing in a car these days.  It just makes sense to put the motor in a centrally located place.  In the past the battery pack was used to off set that weight, but with Lipos that is not the case.  One other thing I noticed at the TOP Gun races was the amount and placement of lead weights that most racers need to use just to balance the car left to right.  On the Losi the steel Lipo tray adds 120 grams at the very bottom/center of the car, an ideal location for weight to be added.  Any additional weight can then be added where the drive feels it's needed.  Not just where ever there is space left.  There were guys running full sticks of lead weights on the top of battery straps and top decks, all just to make weight.

Like I said the Losi design just makes more sense to me then the traditional TC layout.  That and playing with all the lead is not good for you.Cool

On a side note what is a good tire compound for the Nor Cal track?  I'm looking at Sorex tires in a 32 or 36 compound or maybe Jaco Rubbers in the Blue compound.   Whats good for a 17.5 turn newbie?

I guess we just became unofficial team mates then huh?  What class do you run in? I'll be in 17.5 after I get some time to shake down my car.

I was at the TOP Gun races on Sunday and didn't see single Type R there.  Made me think twice about what car I wanted to run.  The Type R layout just makes more sense to me then the typical TC layout.  I ran into a guy at the races who was driving a TOP Photon he got hit so hard in his motor that his bulkhead twisted.  I can't imagine that hits like that can be good for a motor.  The Type R has better protection for the motor the most other chassis designs.

Racing this Sunday at Nor-Cal! This is the Top Gun hangover race. After racing 13.5 over the weekend I'm ready to saw the barrel of my pump off and pull trigger. Who's in for Mod? Jelich better be consistent through the dragon's back because if I drive the way I did in rounds 6 and 7.......there's gonna be some drama on the track you can count on that.

NYI.  As soon as I get all the equipment together I'll be running a Losi JRXS Type R.  I have the kit built. I just need to get the rest of the gear in place to run.  Why do you ask?

Monkey- NorCal has HotWire setup with version 200 of the software...perfect for 17.5 which can really use the timing ramp.

I found a killer deal on a Tekin 17.5 system, brand new for $220.  Is there anybody with a hot wire that can hook me up with a sofware up date after I get the system? I'm hoping to make it to Norcal later this week.

I have the SMC 4900 40C and the Thunder Power 5000 40C and I cannot tell any difference between the two. A T bar car, if laid out properly will work just fine. OD ran his T bar lipo car up at A Main a few weeks ago and it was just as fast as his Speed Merchant link car so no need to get a 1 cell specfic car. re; link. Find the picture of the car that OD posted and lay yours out the same way if you are going to be using a T bar car.

Ok guys.  After watching the TOP Gun Challenge I really want to try my hand at running TCs.  I'm assuming that since I'm a newbie that 17.5 would be the place for me to start out.  My questions is what motor/ esc combo is a good choice?  I'm thinking of going with either a Speed Passion set up or a Tekin Redline (not the pro system) set up.  I know that Nor Cal has Tekin on site and a lot of guys use it.  That is one of the reasons I'm looking at getting one. Any other systems I should be looking at?

YOYOYO Francis. I got 1s thunder power pack for my WGT & 1s phantom pack (basicly thunderpower cells) for my Gen X 12. They each have the novak smart boost and work great. You may want to talk to Ronnie & Greg as there boost is half the size of the Novak. Thats probably the only thing I would do different. Punch wise & power it seemed to be able to hang and not fall off @ TOP GUN with the other WGT cars. My 12 scale is still in process but OD posted a pic of how u could use a the TP pack with the T bar.

TOPIC: Norcal On-Road Carpet 1/12 scale 1S lipo battery. Novak Smart Boost already in the equation.

For the guys running 1S packs, what 1S brand lipo pack has been tested/run so far with good results; SMC, Thunder Power, Reedy? Any noticeable punch, run-time or other differences and/or similarities?

What battery form factor would work best for 1/12th scale non T-bar chassis; inboard female bullet connectors or wired packs with Deans plugs.

Is there a case design on the SMC or TP packs with molded cells? I think I saw them on the Reedy 1s packs.

Thanks again.

Thanks to all that attended. This was a fun race but very challenging race format to run with all the last minute entries. We ended up pulling it out for the 120 drivers with great success. The heads up racing in both 13.5 and Mod was great to watch and the ifmar qualfying and triple A Mains in other classes worked without a glitch. The layout held up welll and made for some great racing.

Highlights of the weekend.

1) Kevin Woods run in 13.5 final round 7 from upside down 8 seconds back to almost win. Im telling you this run was so inspiring to watch. The rule never give up was tough to all of us on this one.

2) George Lin consistant running and hard fought win for the overall Top Gun win in 13.5.

3) The Tyler Vik, Aaron Biner finish in Mod round 5 finish had the place screeming

4) The Top Gun winner for 13.5 and Mod was decided in the last round. By one point.

5) Brunblays win in 17.5 triple A Mains and Podiuming in Mini

6) Zhaos efforts in 13.5 for the overall and his win in in the overall in Mini. Seeing the helmet on Zhao made the whole place laugh. Im sure youll see the pictures.

7) Langaricas dominance in F1 up till the final Triple A Main where a mistake cost him the overall.

8) Stephanson domination in WGT 1S buy taking the first two of the triple A Mains for the win.

9) Tyler Viks come from last to first in Round 7 final to give him a shot at the Mod overall. He did everything he could have to put him in for the overall win. Had I finished one spot worse he would have taken the Mod overall with his new track record run from dead last upside down and passing for the win o the last lap.

10) Lexs line through the Dragons back was the show of the week with the 720 rodeo flip of his car.
