MF,

I havent seen to any cases where the motor has been damaged do to a racing incident. The Losi is a cool looking idea, but hasent produced good race results for most of the average racers. Also its not supported in alot of Hobby Stores I think.

Thanks Catalyst  I figured I'd need some different compounds for colder days.  I just didn't know where to start.  Time to spend some more money.

Both a set of SJ-R in both 32 and 36 and you will be set for a while. 32 for cold mornings and 36s are great from about 10am throughout the day and they are 20 run tires for most.

The Solaris tires worked great there too and they are pretty inexpensive. I prefer the SJ-R personally.

I'll have to check it out.  What about tires?  What compound is good for Nor Cal's track?

I'm looking at Sorex tires in a 32 or 36 compound or maybe Jaco Rubbers in the Blue compound.   Whats good for a 17.5 turn newbie?

I'd worry in 17.5 as well - with the current competitive ESC/Motor and timing advances you will be creating just as much heat as any other wind motors.

Frank Peavey came up with a very ingenious design for a fan on this chassis - he's 4wheeldrift on the boards here.

If i was running Mod the maybe I'd worry.  In 17.5 I don't think it will be an issue.

Convince myself of what?  That I don't like the idea of my $80 motor hanging off the edge of my chassis waiting for someone to come along and smack the crap out of it?  I didn't need any convincing of that.  Laughing

My opinion is that Losi's design is the way of the future(you could add Team Magic in here as well).  The motor has become the heaviest thing in a car these days.  It just makes sense to put the motor in a centrally located place.  In the past the battery pack was used to off set that weight, but with Lipos that is not the case.  One other thing I noticed at the TOP Gun races was the amount and placement of lead weights that most racers need to use just to balance the car left to right.  On the Losi the steel Lipo tray adds 120 grams at the very bottom/center of the car, an ideal location for weight to be added.  Any additional weight can then be added where the drive feels it's needed.  Not just where ever there is space left.  There were guys running full sticks of lead weights on the top of battery straps and top decks, all just to make weight.

Like I said the Losi design just makes more sense to me then the traditional TC layout.  That and playing with all the lead is not good for you.Cool

On a side note what is a good tire compound for the Nor Cal track?  I'm looking at Sorex tires in a 32 or 36 compound or maybe Jaco Rubbers in the Blue compound.   Whats good for a 17.5 turn newbie?

I guess we just became unofficial team mates then huh?  What class do you run in? I'll be in 17.5 after I get some time to shake down my car.

I was at the TOP Gun races on Sunday and didn't see single Type R there.  Made me think twice about what car I wanted to run.  The Type R layout just makes more sense to me then the typical TC layout.  I ran into a guy at the races who was driving a TOP Photon he got hit so hard in his motor that his bulkhead twisted.  I can't imagine that hits like that can be good for a motor.  The Type R has better protection for the motor the most other chassis designs.

Racing this Sunday at Nor-Cal! This is the Top Gun hangover race. After racing 13.5 over the weekend I'm ready to saw the barrel of my pump off and pull trigger. Who's in for Mod? Jelich better be consistent through the dragon's back because if I drive the way I did in rounds 6 and 7.......there's gonna be some drama on the track you can count on that.

NYI.  As soon as I get all the equipment together I'll be running a Losi JRXS Type R.  I have the kit built. I just need to get the rest of the gear in place to run.  Why do you ask?

Monkey- NorCal has HotWire setup with version 200 of the software...perfect for 17.5 which can really use the timing ramp.

I found a killer deal on a Tekin 17.5 system, brand new for $220.  Is there anybody with a hot wire that can hook me up with a sofware up date after I get the system? I'm hoping to make it to Norcal later this week.

I have the SMC 4900 40C and the Thunder Power 5000 40C and I cannot tell any difference between the two. A T bar car, if laid out properly will work just fine. OD ran his T bar lipo car up at A Main a few weeks ago and it was just as fast as his Speed Merchant link car so no need to get a 1 cell specfic car. re; link. Find the picture of the car that OD posted and lay yours out the same way if you are going to be using a T bar car.
