I'll be checking Battery temps with an exergen temp gun from now on. Max temp of 100 degrees f. Rotors may be pulled and checked if I feel the need to do so. Not going to tear every motor apart sorry Kp.

Thank goodness it's nitro tomorrow, no tech for fuel temp! Lol.

Im not in the class but I was glad to see the tech going on. It sucks to be 'the fast guy' and people call you a cheater. It happens to anyone that dominates. The fact is Chris is faster, simple as that. The more tech that goes on the less that people can say about why he's so fast. At some point you're just left with the fact that he drives better.

Bring on the noise and fumes!

Yes that's what I'm saying. You can't just randomly pick the rules to be enforced and leave others out. This is about having a performance advantage right? There is more advantage in heating your battery and running a larger rotor than the things that are being checked. I'm not saying you are doing a bad job in tech. I just believe that if you are doing tech, at least check the things that are going to make a difference on the track.

There is a reason for the temp rule and makes a bigger difference than checking if someone's car is 10 grams underweight.

The older I get the faster I used to be.

Kevin are you saying tech needs to be all or nothing? If so I respectfully disagree. We are doing the best we can to offer the most fair 17.5 program we can. Most of the guys running the class offered positive remarks and thanked me for doing tech. Is it perfect? No. Better than nothing? I think so.

Kevin reread the rule. It says not to exceed 100 degrees or ambient temp plus 5 percent, whichever is greater. Perfectly legal to heat your battery to 100 degrees. I posted a link to this exact rule before the race last week. I understand that a higher temp will not increase voltage. Nobody has said that we are not going to let people run the D3.5 motors.

8.3.2.5.4 The maximum temperature of a charged battery will be checked prior to each run, to not exceed 100°F (37.8°C), or ambient temperature + 5-percent, whichever is greater. The use of a battery warmer is permitted, but it may never exceed 100°F (37.8°C). Preheating of batteries is not permitted in ambient temperatures above 100°F (37.8°C).

I found it!!!!!!

Rule 8.3.2.5.4 1/2 - Currently reads: And I quote!

"Chris Emards B4.1 17.5 car has been banned from any and all competition in the 17.5 2wd Buggy Class. This vehicle will only be permitted in Open Buggy Classes from this moment forward"

There you have it folks!

Hopper you're not going to see an increase in voltage with a heated battery if they know what they're doing. It's the discharge capability that's increased. Ever see how much faster your car feels in warm weather? And I just downloaded the roar rules and battery temp has to be within 5 degrees of ambient. 8.3.2.5.4 is the rulebook number.

All I'm saying is so what if the d3.5 motors are out of spec. Is it an advantage? Maybe maybe not. But there are other illegal ways to make your car faster and if they're not being checked then you might as well not check anything except maybe blinky mode.

The older I get the faster I used to be.

Kevin if I felt that I needed to I would pull rotors and measure them. I know that the winner bought his motor from our shop an hour before the main and he was obviously legal.

We checked weight, batt voltage, motor (roar approved), and blinky on the esc. Overall the tech went well and we had zero racers trying to cheat. Feedback was all positive and we felt good about the whole thing. I I even double checked blinky on the top 3 after the race. I don't know of any other track doing this at their "club" races.

Battery temps can be up to 100 degrees according to roar. I was not checking this as most people had their batt voltage well below the allowed max.

If Chris' car was banned from racing then I would be extremely happy. Just saying!

This is my two cents. Now keep in mind I'm in the hospital and gorked. Lol.

First I totally agree with Kevin and Brendt. It's the driver. However, what used to get me going was the amount of drivers running ramped on esc. It's the main reason I run mod, it takes all the worrying of cheating out of the equation. I agree that the top three finishers should be brought in to see if they are in blinky mode.
