On Sunday, August 27, we did another test day on asphalt with newly built TT-02 cars being the most popular.  Locals seem to be buying these kits to get their feet wet in on-road.

Had a much more complex track layout than previous tests.  Track setup was aided by a cloudy morning that kept the initial temperature in check...a welcome relief.  Adjacent warehouse provided shade to the driver's area too.  Made for a fun day.

Still need to create the barriers; but, Whip It has a big off-road race on September 23.  And I am more concentrating on the upcoming IIC on-road/off-road racing at Las Vegas.

Had another test session with on-road on Sunday, July 23, with about 10 racers showing up.  Looks like the more popular classes for locals up here involve F1, TT-02 and older TC cars.

Finally got to open up my WGT-R (powered by a Team Scream 17.5) on the back straight and it was easily faster than what the others brought to test.  Temp was a dry 99 degrees; so, I was only up to a few runs before retreating indoors to the off-road track.

Next project is to create barriers for the on-road track.

As of last Saturday, we had a clean and sprayed track to test on with an AMD timing system.  Smooth asphalt track had plenty of traction; so, we are good in that respect.  Next step is to create a barrier system with doubled up 2x4 boards (like the RCCAR days of old).  Now, due to multiple off-road racing commitments in July, we don't expect to get that done until sometime in August.

And, many racers up here seem to have strong interest in F1 racing.  Too bad I already sold my F1 car...LOL  But, my WGT-R car ran well on the asphalt.  And all 4-wheel drive touring cars were very good; but, nobody had any modern touring cars that would probably excel.

Bill,

Whip It R/C Raceway is at 1005 Standard Street #C, Reno, NV.  This is located in the Panther Valley warehouse area of North Reno (about 4 miles north of Hwy 80 on Hwy 395).

It is open 1:00 PM-8:00 PM on Wednesday thru Saturday; and, 10:00 AM-5:00 PM on Sundays.  Racing is Wednesday (night), Friday (night) and Sunday (day).  Practice is Thursday and Saturday.

Adam Kushdilian is the owner.  He bought the indoor clay track from Randy Pike of Tekin.  The track's phone number is 775.686.8415.

The alternative track at CKRC Hobbies has a new outdoor carpet track behind the shop; and, it is usually open 7 days a week.  Racing is Thursday (night) and Saturday (day).

They are at 2505 Mill Street #B, Reno, NV.  Their phone number is 775.786.7733.  This is right across from the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) on Hwy 395 (just south of Hwy 80).

Nice that the two tracks are only about 5 miles apart.

OK.  We have a progress report for On-Road in Reno.

Whip It R/C Racing just had their parking lot completed re-asphalted (with no seams).  Track is totally smooth.  Kind of reminds me of the defunct on-road track at the former Nor-Cal location in Union City, CA.

We plan to test on it this Sunday.  Fortunately, the driver's stand can be located in a shaded area at the north side of the warehouse complex.

Locals here are stoked to see on-road return to Reno.

More to follow.

Finally, I thought I'd never see the day....I'm in Reno quite a bit and would love to see if I could put some power down up there. I hope on road takes off in Reno because there are'nt enough places to run on road. The nitro class is on its death bed. Maybe this could help bring the nitro class back to life.

I plan on posting more as it comes to me from Adam at Whip It.  Kind of thinking that any on-road racing would likely be on Saturdays because Whip It R/C has scheduled off-road racing on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.  And Thursdays and Saturdays are their practice days.

Whip It R/C (indoor off-road) is currently open 1:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesdays through Saturday and 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Sundays.  Their new business phone number is 775/686-8415.

Hello Californians,

Adam Kushdilian, the new owner of Whip It RC Racing (formerly Track Time indoor off-road) in North Reno has informed me to expect on-road outdoor asphalt racing in the next few weeks.  Turns out that a business across the street from Whip It has agreed for Adam to use their asphalt parking area on weekends.   Great things are that the surface is brand new seamless asphalt and the adjacent warehouse will provide shade for a driver's stand.

I'm stoked!
